About 5 years ago Russian lawyer “Yury” got fed up with city life, and quit his job to live alone in an off grid hobbit hole in the ground he built himself out in the wilderness 60 miles (about 100 km) from Moscow. He’s not completely alone though…as you’ll find out, and he does have some modern conveniences like solar power and the internet in his cozy little hole in the ground.

We especially like how he says the most important part of his home is his library.

“I was born, lived, studied, lived some more and worked, and then I got fed up with everything.”

Yury seems genuinely happy living his “hobbit” life. What about you? Would you be happier if you lived in your very own hobbit hole?
